The Pensacola Pelicans (6-17) dropped the series finale 5-0 to the Fort Worth Cats (14-9) in another rain delayed game. For the second straight night the Pelicans were unable to get the offense going off the Cats pitching staff. Cats would scratch across runs in three consecutive innings to put the Pelicans behind early.
Fort Worth’s offense got on the board as they would score one run on two hits in the top half of the third inning. Brian Fryer would pick up an RBI as he drove in Osiel Flores, who singled, from second.
The Cats would tack on another run in the top of the fifth on two hits and a Pelican error. With two down and Flores on first, Aaron Sisk singled into left field. A defensive miscue in left by Josh Morgan allowed Flores to come all the way around from first and score.
Up by two, the Cats would tack on two more runs in the top of the sixth. A lead off walk and a stolen base by Brian Fryer would put him at second. Jake Gautreu would single through the four hole to drive in Fryer. Nelson Teilon followed up with a bloop-single to right, scoring Gautreu to make it 4-0 Cats.
For the third straight inning, the Cats would put up runs off Pelican pitching. A lead off double by Charles Carter and single by Aaron Sisk would put the final score at 5-0 Cats.
The Pelicans offense continued to struggle off of Cats pitching as they would scatter seven hits throughout the game. Pensacola’s offense was highlighted by Francisco Leandro who finished 2-3.
Zach Cline will take the mound tomorrow night as the Grand Prairie Airhogs come to town for a three game series.
