The Pensacola Pelicans announce today that they will play an exhibition game against the South Louisiana Pipeliners on Sunday, May 10 at 5 p.m. This game is free for the public to attend. However, the Pelicans will be accepting cash and canned food donations for Manna Food Pantries.
“It will be a good chance to evaluate the players before rosters have to be set on Thursday,” Nunnari stated. “This game will give us the opportunity to go head-to-head against someone different, opposed to our own guys.”
Under American Association regulations, the Pelicans must trim their current 28 player roster to 22 for the season-opener on May 14. The Pelicans will face off against a Pipeliner team they have never played against.
The South Louisiana Pipeliners are an independent prospect team that is unaffiliated with any league, but they will play a 60 game schedule in the Continental Baseball League this season. Comprised of baseball prospects specially selected by various scouting agencies, the Pipeliners garner their name since they hope to serve as a “pipeline” to major league organizations and professional baseball leagues. More information on the Pipeliners is available at: http://slproball.com/pipeliners.
The Pensacola Pelicans will use this game against the Pipeliners to gear up for the start of their 96-game regular season. When asked what he hopes to get out of the exhibition game on Sunday, Nunnari responded: “We’ll see who’s ready.”
