On Bride Bash 2009 at Pelican Park, none of the Brides-To-Be remembered to register for a Pelicans’ win. The Lincoln Saltdogs ended a three game losing streak in grand fashion this evening, ending the Pelicans’ three game winning streak with a 14-2 victory.
The Saltdogs’ intentions were unveiled from the very first inning, as Josh Burrus led off with a double, stole third, and scored on an Albenis Machado sacrifice fly. Josh Burrus was the best man for Lincoln, ending the evening 5-6 with five RBI, including four that came during two homeruns: a three-run shot in the fifth, and a solo round-tripper in the sixth.
Pensacola starter Bubba Nelson pitched 3.1 innings, giving up nine runs, all earned, on ten hits. Nelson tossed the bouquet to Tyler Wilson, who went 5.1 innings, allowing five earned runs, and striking out five. Ulysses Roque faced the last batter in the ninth inning, ringing up a groundout to first base.
Lincoln improved to 12-22 on the year by sending 14 runners down the aisle towards home plate. One marched in the first, three more were given away in the third inning, five runs scored in the fourth, three more crossed the threshold in the fifth, a solo run in the seventh crossed the plate, and a run in the ninth was the icing on the cake for the Saltdogs’ offense.
The Pelicans could only celebrate a two-run bottom of the seventh inning. Dallas Christison led off with a double down the left field line. After Matt Reilly retired two Pelicans in order, Antoin Gray switched places with Christison, hitting a ball in the right-center gap. Gray took advantage of a groundball-error by the second baseman to score the Pelicans’ second run of the evening.
The Pelicans felt left at the alter twice during the game: Pensacola left the bases loaded in both the fourth and sixth innings. Marcos Rodriguez hit the best for the Pelicans, finishing 2-3. Antoin Gray scored and hit the only RBI for the home team, as Christison also reached home.
The Pelicans will undergo a shower before wearing white tomorrow as they host the Saltdogs in the final game of this three-game series. Clegg Snipes will have the ball against Lincoln’s Zac Cline. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
