Shreveport-Bossier captured a bit of revenge Saturday night, edging the Pelicans 2-1. The Pelicans had multiple chances to take a lead, but stranded nine runners while out-hitting the Captains 8-6. The Pelicans used six pitchers to keep their arms fresh in the loss. The Captains wasted no time jumping out to a 1-0 lead.

Bryan Sabatella walked to start the game and then stole second base. After Luis Guance singled, Sabatella advanced to third, scoring when Jose Torres hit a groundball to second base.

The Captains added another run in the top of the fourth when Jose Torres walked to begin the frame. After Torres stole second, he jacked third as well. Jorge Alvarez recorded a base hit to bring in Torres and give the Captains a two-run advantage.

Pensacola had the bases loaded with one out in the third inning but couldn’t score a run. They left runners on second and third in the fourth inning, but did manage to push a run across in the bottom of the fifth.

Adam Darby started off the bottom of the fifth with a walk and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Jason Diaz connected for a single that drove in Darby and cut the Captains’ lead in half.

The run would be Pensacola’s first and only, as Dallas Christison was stranded at third base in the seventh, and Gray was left at second base in the eighth.

Aaron Jackson started the game for Pensacola and was pulled after two innings to keep his arm fresh. Jackson was tagged for the loss as he allowed one run on one hit, walking two and striking out one. Joey Wedner pitched until the end of the fifth, allowing one run on three hits and a walk, striking out two, and the final four Pelicans’ pitchers would only allow two hits.

Tyler Wilson hurled the sixth and allowed only a hit, Bubba Nelson the seventh and yielded just a walk, picking up a strikeout as well. Ulysses Roque let men on base via a hit and a walk, notching a strikeout in the process, and Hunter Davis permitted only a walk in the ninth inning, also recording strikeout number 40 of the year.

Jason Diaz went 2-4 and Adam Deleo went 2-3, as the Pelicans left nine runners on base. The Pelicans will look to end the regular season with a win tomorrow, before the playoffs begin on Tuesday. Sunday’s game starts at 6:05 p.m. in Pensacola.
